Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a millenary therapeutic practice that uses essential oils, extracted from plants, to promote physical, mental-psycho aromatherapy and energetic well-being. Well-being that, sometimes, can also be brought to our four-legged friends (dogs and cats) and to the environment in which we live.

Usage

The molecules of essential oils are obtained with different techniques from the components of the plant: flowers, peel, branches, leaves. These oils can be used through inhalation (direct or with a diffuser), skin application or oral intake. We will help you understand how to use essential oils.

How Essential Oils Work

Essential oils are not just pleasant fragrances: they are powerful natural tools that influence our body on different levels. Every time we use them, they act on three fundamental levels:
Physical body – through skin, oral and inhalation absorption
Psyche and emotions – through smell and the nervous system
Subtle energy – interacting with energy centers and channels
Knowing these absorption pathways will help you use oils more consciously and effectively.

If you want to know how to use them, go to the page dedicated to how to use them.

  • Physical Body: The Absorption of Essential Oils into Our Body

Essential oils act systemically through three main absorption routes:
✔ volatile molecules are inhaled through the nose and lungs, reaching the pulmonary alveoli and from there the bloodstream, with a rapid and widespread effect on the organism.
✔ applied to the skin, they penetrate through pores and hair follicles, reaching the blood capillaries and the lymphatic system. From there they are transported to organs and tissues.
✔ taken orally, they pass through the stomach and small intestine, where they are absorbed and released into the bloodstream. (Oral use should only be done under professional supervision) .

Once in circulation, the active ingredients are distributed throughout the body, metabolised by the liver and finally eliminated through the kidneys, lungs, skin and large intestine , according to normal excretory processes.
This bioavailability pattern allows essential oils to act in a targeted manner on different physiological systems, with both physical and neuro-emotional effects.

  • Emotions: The Action of Smell on the Limbic System

When we inhale an essential oil, its aromatic molecules reach the olfactory epithelium in the nose, where they stimulate specific nerve receptors. The signal is transmitted to the olfactory bulb , which directs it directly to the limbic system , the area of the brain that regulates emotions, memory, and instinctive responses.
This direct connection between the sense of smell and the emotional brain explains why essential oils have an immediate effect on our mood.
This is known as the Nobel Prize-winning Buck-Axel key lock mechanism.

    Olfactory path:
👃 Nose → Olfactory receptors → Olfactory bulb → Limbic system (amygdala,
    hippocampus)

    🌿Examples of emotional effects:
Real lavender: calming action, reduces anxiety and stress
Sweet orange: stimulates positivity and vitality
Incense: promotes introspection and deep meditation

💡 Smell is the only one of the five senses that sends information to the brain without passing through the rational cortex: this is why a scent can excite us in a few moments.

  • Subtle body: chakra

Essential oils, according to holistic disciplines, emit a vibrational frequency capable of influencing the aura and harmonizing the chakras throughout the energy system.

    Energy path:
Oil Frequency → Aura → Chakra → Meridians

🔺High frequency oils: Rose, Frankincense, Lavender → balance energy and aura
🌱 Grounding oils: Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood → stimulate the first chakra

💡 Ideal in practices such as
    meditation, Reiki and energy treatments.

AROMATHERAPY GLOSSARY

ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential Oils are molecules extracted from aromatic plant material (different parts of a plant). Essential oils are obtained by distillation or pressing from a specific variety of plant, maintaining distinctive characteristics such as flavor and smell. The properties of oils are related to the chemical profile of the molecules and vibrational frequencies. Essential oils can be taken in different ways: by air through the sense of smell, by epidermal through the skin and by mouth. Use can bring benefits through absorption through our bloodstream, through inhalation and activation of our olfactory receptors with consequent stimulation of the central nervous system, through our digestive system or through the reception of their frequencies and the effect on our energy "centers" or chakras.

KIT

In aromatherapy, THE KIT refers to a synergy. The synergy can be composed of different essential oils, essential oils and vegetable oils, essential oils and crystals. Synergies bring together different properties to enhance the benefit of the kit for well-being. For example, the kit for headaches includes peppermint essential oils, crystal rolls and almond vegetable oil.

BIO

The acronym Bio in essential oils indicates that the product was obtained from plants grown according to organic farming criteria. This means that during cultivation, chemical fertilizers, pesticides or other synthetic substances were not used. Organic essential oils are therefore considered purer and more natural than non-organic ones, and are often certified by competent bodies.

EDIBLE

Most of the essential oils available on the Euodia website are edible as specified on the label, therefore also usable for oral use. If you want to be sure, write to us.

VEGETABLE OILS │ CARRIERS

They are fats of vegetal origin that are usually liquid at room temperature. These oils are a mixture of lipids obtained mainly from fruits and oil seeds. In aromatherapy they are also defined as "carriers" because they have the ability to bind the oils to themselves and allow mixing with creams or soaps.

HYDROLATES

Also known as floral waters or aromatic waters, they are the result of steam distillation of aromatic plants. During this process, the essential oils are separated from the water, but a small amount of oil remains dissolved in the water, giving the hydrolates their beneficial properties. Hydrolates are less concentrated than essential oils, which makes them ideal for direct use on the skin, as toners, or to add an aromatic touch to cosmetics and personal care products. They are appreciated for their soothing, hydrating and refreshing properties, and can be used in a variety of applications, from skin care to air freshening.

BASICS

In aromatherapy, bases are usually neutral creams, soaps, cleansers or lotions used as a means of diluting essential oils before applying them to the skin. This is because essential oils are very concentrated.

ACCESSORIES

Aromatherapy accessories include a variety of tools used to diffuse, apply, or store essential oils. These can include diffusers, crystals, bowls, mixing bottles, storage containers, pipettes, and more.

SYNERGIES

In aromatherapy, a synergy is a studied combination of essential oils that act in a complementary way, enhancing each other's benefits. The result is a deeper, more balanced and more targeted effect than the use of individual oils.
In the Euodia world, synergies are also enriched by crystal therapy : we combine essential oils and natural stones based on their energetic and emotional affinity, to offer a complete holistic experience.
Synergies can help you relax, sleep better, regain concentration, strengthen your inner center… and much more. They can be used in diffusion, on the body (always diluted), in aromatic baths or during energy rebalancing practices.

Crystals

Aromatherapy can be enhanced by the use of crystals, thanks to the synergy between their energetic vibrations. Crystals amplify the effectiveness of essential oils, promoting relaxation, energetic rebalancing and mental and emotional well-being. They can be used in different ways: worn, placed on the body, during meditation or sleep, to harmonize the aura and the energy field.
